Letter from the City of Modesto Issued on July 26, 2019.
Del Rio Customer:
Well number 282 is located in or around your area at 7312 Hillcrest Drive in Modesto, California in the northwest area of the Del Rio community.
This well was constructed in 1980 to a depth of 292 feet below ground surface and was a former Del Este Water Company facility. This site was acquired and has been operated by the City of Modesto since July of 1995.
In July of 2017, following multiple years of drought in California, Nitrates were detected in the water samples near the maximum drinking water limits of 10 mg/l. This well site is crucial to maintaining water supply and pressures for the Del Rio community. Although the water quality is still within acceptable drinking water standards, as a precaution, the city has installed a Nitrate removal treatment system for Well 282 and has completed improvements to the system in order to exceed minimum standards.
Construction of the Nitrate removal treatment system began in the summer of 2018 and is now completed, with an estimated startup date of August 5th. This implementation was necessary in order to maintain high standards of health and safety, and ensures the well remains online in the event fire protection is required.
As required for the treatment process, chlorination disinfection of the water system will also be implemented to help maintain safe drinking water standards.
